Mesa, AZ -Lost Dutchman State Park is located in the Sonoran Desert near the Superstition Mountains in central Arizona.

During the rainy season, there will be many river crossings! Plan to be wet and to search for the trail. Sometimes you can spot rock piles to help you navigate but truly, bring a GPS/compass and someone with a good sense of direction.

Most everything is wet, so if you need a fire, plan ahead for that situation! There are many campsites along the trail, we camped at about the 10th mile in.

The trail can be slippery at times so wear shoes with grip! There is also a lot of overgrowth, especially plants that poke. So beware! Bring antihistamine, tweezers, and bandages.

Overall, great backpacking experience. I just wish I would have realized that there would be so many river crossings and brought the right pair of waterproof shoes or just brought hiking sandals for those parts.

*Dogs allowed on trail with leash (In all honesty we let the little guy off when we were sure no one was around and leashed him the minute some came within our view or hearing. He is a service dog and well trained, so like always...know your dog's abilities.)
